Abstract
Education faces great challenges in classroom management and different learning strategies that satisfy the needs of children, enabling the achievement of different skills. This study focuses on reading processes. The objective of the research is to implement Gamification using the Escape Room tool as a new methodological strategy that awakens motivation for reading in third grade children of Basic Education (EGB) of the Portoviejo Computer Education Unit. With this strategy we want to actively involve students in reading, turning the experience into a fun and attractive challenge. Nowadays, the escape room has become a way to diversify learning and provide significant learning opportunities. The research methodology is a case study based on the needs identified in the third grade with a qualitative approach and an interpretive paradigm making it possible to understand the reality of learning. This research conclusively confirms that gamification, especially through the Escape Room- based approach, significantly improves the reading skills of third grade students, sparking greater interest in reading. It is recommended to continue and expand the implementation of this methodology in the curriculum, provide ongoing training to teachers, regularly evaluate the strategy, involve parents in reading-related activities, and conduct more research to measure its long-term impact and applicability in other areas of the curriculum.
