Abstract
This paper addresses the research problem of how to develop communication in a student with non-verbal Autism Spectrum Disorder in classroom 2 of functional General Basic Education at the Nicolas Vásquez Special Education Unit in Paute? The general objective of the study is to design an interactive folder based on the PECS method for the development of communication in a student with non-verbal autism spectrum disorder in classroom 2 of functional Basic Education. Likewise, the theoretical foundations necessary for the understanding and development of the research problem are presented. The method used was the single case study, which focuses on a Hermeneutic-interpretative paradigm with a qualitative approach. The category of analysis is nonverbal communication, analyzed in an 11-year-old boy with nonverbal autism spectrum disorder. The techniques used were documentary review, observation and interview. Field diaries, content cards and semi-structured interview scripts were used as instruments, in which the student's communication and interaction problems were evidenced. In response to the identified problem, an interactive folder was designed based on the PECS method, which consists of a resource where the child can exchange ideas by means of images. The general conclusion of this work is the creation of an interactive folder based on the PECS method to develop communication in a student with ASD, the proposal is to create a folder based on the PECS method to help the student to communicate through images and this structure based on the 7 phases of the PECS method, to which the specialists who evaluated it say that it is a proposal that could help the child and that the changes that should be made are minimal.
