Abstract
This work is aimed at all teachers concerned about the lack of interest of their students in reading and how this problem is reflected in the poor reading comprehension at the time of submitting the papers, summaries and evaluations, which can be evidenced in the statistical results, that there are very low averages both in the area of Language and Literature and in Mathematics in most of the educational institutions. The research was conducted in the EEGB "El Quiteño Libre", located in the Pomasqui Parish, Quito Canton, Pichincha Province, with 6th grade students, the results determined that the little interest in reading is due to the minimal motivation in home and the lack of application of strategies in the classroom that arouse interest in this activity.
