The object of the research is syntax as a part of grammar that studies the organization of words and the grammatical structure (subject-verb-predicate) of sentences. The general objective: to reveal the syntactic awareness in the writing of personal narratives of fourth grade students of Basic General Education in an educational unit of the city of Cuenca. The theoretical foundations of the research follow the principles of Armas (1973) and Habermas (1987). The methodology favors the qualitative study, through the implementation of techniques and instruments for data collection of the phenomena under investigation (teacher and students). Finally, syntax within the communicative approach to literature requires students to master linguistic skills.
