Abstract
The purpose of this degree work is to improve reading comprehension in the teaching-learning process of 37 students of the sixth year of Basic General Education (BGE) of the Educational Unit "La Inmaculada", in the city of Cuenca, province of Azuay; for which, a guide of recreational activities that allow contributing to the development of text comprehension was developed. The theoretical foundations of this research are oriented towards reading comprehension taking as the main reference (Cassany, 2005 and Perkins, 2009). So too, playful pedagogy and play as a means of learning development. The research approach is mixed with the type of descriptive research. Information techniques and instruments were applied such as interviews, teacher and student surveys, application of a diagnostic test to the students to know the performance in reading comprehension levels. Such instruments made it easier to diagnose and establish the problem statement related to students' deficiency in reading comprehension. In addition, a proposal focused on the Ludic Pedagogy is designed, which consists of 21 activities supported by the game and whose didactic approach focuses on reading comprehension. It is concluded based on the literature review that the application of recreational activities is successful in the educational field, because it generates motivation and interest in students, and therefore represents an effective alternative to improve reading comprehension the students.
