Abstract
The research work entitled Motor Play for the Development of Gross Motor Skills in Infants in Sublevel 2 "X" of the Luis Cordero Early Education Centre was carried out in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. Participant observation revealed difficulties presented by 25 infants when performing motor activities of balance, laterality, synchronization and harmony in walking, running and jumping, and coordination movements. The objective of this work is to stimulate the development of gross motor skills through motor play in infants aged 4 to 5 years in the area of Corporal Expression and Motor Skills. The methodology was a case study, based on the socio-critical paradigm with a qualitative approach. In order to develop the activity plan, we considered the appropriate skills in the area of body language and motor skills, which helped to create the educational intervention proposal “Playing with my body I learn”. The results showed that the activities incorporated in the classes supported gross motor development, such as jumping from one foot to the other, maintaining balance and postural control and walking, concluding that using motor games in gross motor skills classes significantly helps infants to develop better in these aspects.
