Abstract
The purpose of this final thesis is to promote reading and reading comprehension of students, through Ecuadorian legends, for which a didactic unit is proposed in three sessions, which have the legends as a fundamental axis. Each of the sessions has a series of activities focused on developing reading, linguistic, communicative and artistic skills. In addition, emphasis is placed on group work as a learning strategy. The results after applying the sequence were evident in the students, because they enjoyed the proposed legends, and above all, an important progress was observed in the use of oral and written skills, as well as enhancing critical reading, literary and artistic creation. Finally, an improvement to the didactic sequence is proposed by selecting texts, based on student interest, with dynamic activities, using the use of ICTs and maintaining group work as a learning strategy.
