Abstract
The objective of this research was to propose a pictographic system of augmentative communication to strengthen the development of oral expression in a child with Intellectual Disability of the Educational Unit "Agustín Cueva Tamariz", through the use of a pictographic system of augmentative communication, a proposal that arises from the realization of the pro professional practices, in that institution, in a period of 13 weeks to the 7th EGB parallel "C", to 9 students with different types of disabilities. One student was observed with difficulties in oral communication, presenting a limited vocabulary, problems in the combination of words, affecting fluid communication, with a diagnosis of dysphasia. The research was conducted under the interpretative hermeneutic paradigm, with a qualitative approach, through participant observation and interview, using a participant observation guide, an interview guide for the teacher and parents, the logopedic record and data triangulation. These documents made it possible to identify and verify the difficulties presented by the child. The proposal was developed in 12 sessions, using a system of pictograms based on categories and colors: yellow for people in the family and school environment, everyday places (purple), actions (green), emotions (blue), interests (brown), health (white), favorite foods (red), objects in the house (orange) that contribute to the strengthening of oral expression.
